How to Use the Calculator

First look at the list of rated courses below. Click on any course to see recent race results. Then click the calculator link and enter a race performance on that course to see what its equivalent would have been on any of the other courses. You can also calculate the track equivalent of a performance on any of the rated courses.

A cross country performance becomes universally understandable once converted to its track equivalent. To learn more about the system, see "How the System Works." Using the calculator, coaches, athletes, parents, or anyone can find out who actually ran more competitively, even on different courses and dates.

A course difficulty rating is a percentage, reflecting the amount of increased energy required to run a cross country course above what the same runner would expend to run an identical speed and distance on a track in similar conditions.
